A couple of my bloggy pals asked if I would do a tutorial for the pinwheels. I needed to make a couple to go on a gift for my secret pal at work, so I thought Id take some pics while I made them, so I could show you.
Wait til you see how EASY they are to make!
first gather your supplies, you will need papers, sticks or heavy straws for the handles, hot glue gun and glue sticks, other good glue for gluing the fronts and backs together on your papers if they arent double sided, distressing ink and buttons.
Next, cut your paper into squares. what ever size you like. I like to make different sizes. If youre going to make several, I suggest cutting one at 6 inches, 5 inches and 4 inches.. you can go smaller if you want too.
Next, if your paper isnt a heavy double sided paper, you will need to glue two pieces together. I always use my fabri tac glue. I just really like it, but you can use what ever you want.
now you'll need to cut diagonally from each corner toward the center. Dont cut all the way to the center, leave about an inch square in the middle.
Using hot glue, gently curl each corner towards the center and glue it down. dont fold the pieces.. you dont want it to be flat.
I then used distressing ink on all the edges to give it some shading. I also distressed the straws that I used for the sticks.
Glue the sticks on and your pinwheel is almost finished! All you have left to do is add a button, or pompom into the center and ta dah! youre done!
See? easy peasy!
have fun!

I definitely need to make some of these, I have been collecting paper striped straws for just the right project!
ReplyDeleteSuper fantastic! I made a bunch of those one year for Josie's birthday garland. I love your paper choices for these, Viv. I'm sneaking blogs in our CO motel room. It's been another busy day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!! My granddaughter is coming for a visit in a couple of weeks to celebrate her first birthday and our theme is pinwheels and polka dots!! Perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! Thanks for sharing how you made them.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!! These are so fun to make!! I need to take my summer ones out that I made last year!! Hope all is wonderful!! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI love how you distressed your paper. When I made mine, I poked a tack thru the paper and into the eraser of a 4th of July pencil. Your way is much classier!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vivness!!
ReplyDeleteThese will make a fun project for the kids who I'm already hearing, "I'm bored" from. Can't blame them. Lots of rainy, muggy days here.
I would never have thought to distress them. It's all in the details. : )
So cute! Well now that *IS* easy- if you're not me! Ha-ha! Seriously, it takes me a few tries to cut a square! I ruin so much paper when I paper craft and it makes me feel so... challenged! ♥
ReplyDeleteThanks for this lesson:) I will take the supplies on vacation and make them with the kids:) Have a blessed week dear Viv, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! So cute! I just made one the other day! :) I need to make a few more! Love the distressed look on yours! :) xo Holly

ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!! I just now printed it out & I AM going to try to make some. Your tutorials are so awesomely understandable - even for a blockhead like me! I'm not worried about being able to 'figure it out' - just don't know if my wooden fingers will cooperate! I'm going to TRY, though! LOVE YOU, VIV!!! And I wish with all my heart I could sit down with you and create because I KNOW I'd learn so much!
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer Vivian! Oh My Gosh! Just visiting your blog (via the library)makes my heart start beating faster. The cuteness I have missed! Your 4th creations are heavenly Viv. YOU make me smile! Enjoy your 4th! Always, E
